I most strongly protest!

While the House of Holland may be doing roaring business with their t-shirts featuring witty one-liners rhyming with the names of designers and models, I can't help but get a "been there, done that" feeling. For me, if you're going to have text on your shirt Katherine Hamnett protest t-shirts are the way to go.

At this point, my collection consists of a salmon pink shirt emblazoned with "Vote! Get it straight by '88"...an acid yellow silk shirt telling us to "Stay alive in '85"...and, my favorite, a long-sleeved black t-shirt, complete with a skull and the menacing injunction to "Clean up or die".

The good news is that, even if you can't find one of the 80s originals, you can pick-up one of the re-issue shirts from Hamnett's website...if you don't want to tell people to "Clean up" you can ask them to "Choose Life" or have a "Worldwide Nuclear Ban Now". What a fashionable way to have your say.
